Breedlove Body Shape Guitars
Concertina Body Shapes
Breedlove’s small body guitar, delivers a surprisingly clear, crisp, and loud sound. It’s 12-frets to the body design make it a joy to play. Extensive Sound Optimization™ engineering has resulted in a body shape that has a bigger sound and is more comfortable to play than a traditional parlor.
Concert Body Shapes
The Concert is our most popular body shape, favored by players because it is well-balanced, compact, comfortable to play, and offers all the qualities of a great sounding guitar. It generates a wonderfully articulate range of tone with an ample low end that is never boomy, but always felt. The Concert works well when played fingerstyle, as vocal accompaniment, or at a full strum.
Concerto Body Shapes
When we set out to create a guitar that would surpass the classic big body sound of the dreadnought, we didn’t just want it to be loud. We sought to bring out more tonal complexity, and to offer a much more comfortable playing experience, too. Introducing the new Breedlove Concerto, a new guitar shape created to elicit more volume than a classic dreadnought, and more lush, complex tonal resonance in a comfortable body shape that feels just right. Loud, textured, and supremely satisfying.
Crafted from woods like myrtlewood, mahogany, rosewood, koa, cocobolo, and Brazilian, the Concerto shape lets each wood resonate in a way you’ve never heard before.
The Research
The woods in an acoustic guitar are interactive. It is the synergy of the variable organic woods that determines the sound, balance, volume, complexity, and tone. The size of an instrument and how a player approaches the strings also affect the sound. So it was critical for us to observe countless musicians play, how they position their hand around the neck and their fingers on the fretboard.
We measured the relationships between soundboard frequencies and back frequencies, targeting fundamental resonant frequencies and the various pathways to achieving them. To accomplish big, lush sound in the Breedlove Concerto, we increased the interior air space and reduced the sound hole size to increase air resistance.
Playability
While sound is very important, it must be comfortable to play. The Breedlove Concerto has a more pronounced waist, making it comfortable to play while sitting and approachable while standing. We also use the thinner Breedlove neck profile, inviting more flexibility in finger movement across the fingerboard.
We’ve unveiled eight exquisitely handcrafted guitars with the new Concerto body shape.
